State Your Name – TechCrunch

Here we go with the last show for 2021, recorded in mid-December. This was Frank Radis’ last show from New York before he returned to London. It was nice to say goodbye to the year, but we made sure we didn’t say goodbye like we did in 2020. It was nice to feel good about the Zoom-connected friendships we nurtured, and it’s nice to appreciate the workflow from anywhere and nonetheless still being productive.

To me, the impulses of technology and its impact on many of the things we struggle with — politics, live broadcasting, media business — have been and are clear. It may be that cryptocurrency will find its moment, but I will not gamble with it. Mid-term looms, social networks are turning to TicTok and live audio, but I wouldn’t bet the kind of numbers that will transform Wall Street so far at all. Newsletters are increasingly looking like publishers, and startup publishers are starting to dodge it, but it takes talent not risk money to make it steady.

Not since Bill Gates and the Google twins ruled the world have seen such a shift in the stars that define the night sky. Dorsey, who invented Twitter as a side project, and Andreessen, who sped thinking from 1X to at least 2X, are skating ahead of the curve now, more consistent than the media wants. Television is gone and replaced by a mixture of computers, mobiles, and small films that will survive the 1950s era. The Beatles are now the old guard, struggling to make the transition from children to parents to divorce and rebirth. The more shots we relive, the more we realize what an amazingly brave process they opened at the doors of our perception. They were just too old to fail and did it anyway, and even then let’s see how far the collaboration can go. As James Taylor echoed:

Just wash with love for the one you love
Show them how you feel
Things will be fine
If you only do it
do as i say
