Meet the Ottobots – The First Autonomous Delivery Robots for Restaurants and Retail Businesses

Ottonomy has unveiled the world’s first fleet of fully autonomous delivery robots. Developed for the restaurant and retail industries, Autobot uses contextual maps and advanced navigation technologies to work in both indoor and outdoor environments.

Autonomous delivery robot pilots went live during 2020, with the initial rollout of robot delivery helping to gain additional insight from the user experience to further develop the software.

Now, with their global debut at CES 2022 at the Las Vegas Convention Center, the Ottobots are ready to change the delivery game for the restaurant and retail industries.

This technology could really be the solution some restaurants and retail companies have been looking for in the wake of the ongoing pandemic.

Ottonomy’s development of autonomous delivery technology has been greatly aided by several partnerships, including CVG Airport in Cincinnati where Ottobots has been providing retail and food products. Additional beta programs have also recently been added to Newlab at Brooklyn Navy Yard in New York. Even Presto, one of America’s leading providers of restaurant automation technology, has begun using Ottobots to deliver food ordered by restaurant guests.

It might be a good idea for small businesses that are having troubles with staffing and service due to the pandemic to take into account the rapid uptake of this technology among the leading technology companies.

The future is brighter for Ottonomy thanks to a strategic partnership with ARO, the global leader in management and robotic operations. ARO will support Ottonomy during the nationwide rollout over the next 18 months, helping with the day-to-day operations and life-long management of the automated fleet.

Ottonomy CEO Ritokar Vijay was excited to unveil Ottobots at his company’s first event at CES, and said: “The pandemic has provided Ottobots with a catalyst that allows us to have a series of partnerships that have allowed us to launch a completely autonomous delivery of indoor deliveries, along with Pier. Deliveries and last mile deliveries.”

How Ottobots work

Ottobots are programmed with a digital map of the serviceable area where you will operate, with live location updated on the map as you navigate independently while orders are being delivered. It is a proprietary contextual navigation software developed by Ottonomy that enables Ottobots to navigate through environments even when they are crowded and unpredictable.

The standalone delivery software is highly scalable and flexible, and comes with a comprehensive set of tools for managing a fleet of bots that operate across a variety of different geographies.

The success of the Ottobot rollout saw Ottonomy recognized by the Robotics Business Review as being among the Top 50 Robotics Companies Worldwide in 2021. The company also won a Mobility Startup Award from Plug & Play Accelerator, as well as a Best Sustainability Product Award from the Business Group Intelligence Group of the Year for 2021.
