Indonesia-based eFishery announced today that it has raised what it claims is the largest funding round by a startup aquaculture company in the world. The company, which provides feed hardware, software and financing to fish and shrimp farmers, has been awarded a $90 million Series C joint led by Temasek, SoftBank Vision Fund 2, and Sequoia Capital India, with the participation of returning investors from Northstar Group, Go-Ventures, Aqua-Spark and Wavemaker. The funds will be used to expand the eFishery platform and expand into the top 10 aquaculture countries, including China and India.

eFishery products include software such as eFarm, which allows shrimp farmers to monitor their operations and eFisheryKu, which does the same for fish farmers. Its financing products include the eFund, which connects fish farmers with financial institutions for products such as a pay-as-you-go service for suppliers. It says more than 7,000 farmers have used the eFund so far, with loans totaling more than $28 million approved.

Other products include Smart Nutrients, which are now used by more than 30,000 farmers in Indonesia.

“Indonesia is one of the world’s largest producers of fish, and we believe that its aquaculture industry can play an important role in feeding a growing global population,” Anna Lu, investment director at SoftBank Investment Advisers, said in a statement.

Other Indonesian agritech startups that have recently raised significant rounds of funding include markets TaniHub and Eden Farm, “sea-to-table” fishing company Aruna, and social trading startup Chilibeli.
